Buyout
Also called full buyout, content buyout
A buyout is a single payment that transfers broad or unlimited rights in the content to the brand, usually covering every channel with no end date.
The word is used loosely. Sometimes it means a full transfer of copyright, sometimes it just means a perpetual licence, and the two are different: after a copyright transfer the video is not yours to post at all, not even in a portfolio.
Always ask which one is meant and get it in writing. A licence, however broad, leaves you the owner. An assignment does not.
If it is a real buyout, the price should reflect that this is the last money the video ever earns you. Treat it as the perpetual rate plus whatever the exclusivity and portfolio restrictions are worth on top.
