Organic post

Also called organic use, organic only

An organic post is one published without ad spend behind it, so it reaches only the accounts a platform shows it to for free.

In a UGC licence, organic only is the narrowest and cheapest grant: the brand may post the video on their own account, and may not put budget behind it. It is the floor every other rate on the ladder is multiplied from.

The distinction matters because a brand can move a video from organic to paid with one click and no further conversation, and nothing about the file changes when they do. The only thing stopping it is the clause.

If a brand wants the option later, sell it later. A written renewal price for paid rights costs you nothing to offer and is often accepted, because it solves their problem without buying rights they may not use.

  • Usage rights

Usage rights are what a brand is allowed to do with a video after you deliver it: which channels it can appear on, whether they can put ad spend behind it, and for how long.

  • Whitelisting

Whitelisting is when a brand runs paid ad spend through your social handle rather than their own, so the ad appears in feeds as a post from you.

  • Spark Ads

Spark Ads are TikTok's format for putting paid spend behind an existing organic post, either the brand's own or a creator's, using an authorisation code the account holder generates.
